peach-smoothie-042Well, it’s the first Friday of 2014. The sun is shining, the air is crisp, music is playing and the time of hibernation is coming to an end. Not winter hibernation, we have about two months of winter left in Georgia, but the Christmas holiday post-New Year’s TV marathon couch-potato hibernation.

In honor of crawling out of the elaborate nest I’ve made among the couch cushions and blankets, I’m breaking out the peaches. It’s winter so I don’t have any fresh peaches, but I have the bags of frozen peach slices I prepped during the summer, which are perfect for smoothies. Also located in my fridge: peach nectar (left over from New Year’s Bellinis) and fresh ginger. Awesome.

I haven’t made smoothies in a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when rummaging around my kitchen led to locating my staple smoothie additions: Chia and flax seeds, protein powder, gelatin and fish oil. Excellent. Smoothies are a go.

So, armed with peachy smoothie goodness, I now feel I’m ready to say this:

2014 – Game on.

Peach Smoothie - a smoothie for the New Year!

Ingredients
  • ½ C Greek Yogurt, plain
  • 2 scoops Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 Tbsp ground Flax Seeds
  • 2 tsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 Tbsp powdered Gelatin
  • 1½ tsp Ginger Juice
  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 C Peach Nectar or Juice
  • 12 oz Peaches, sliced and frozen
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately and, if you like, garnish with peach slices and cinnamon sticks.
Notes
To make ginger juice, grate fresh ginger and squeeze the juice out of the grated portion.

If using fresh peaches, add ice to the mixture.
