A private suite, goat cheese, tales of France, vineyards and chefs… the perfect setting for an intimate wine tasting.
I was lucky enough to have been invited to attend this event – a private wine tasting for Bliss Travels family and friends. Bliss Travels is a boutique travel company that specializes in unique tours of France. The owner, Wendy Jaeger, is a recovering attorney (like a certain blogger) who to live in France and has traveled the country extensively for over 30 years. She has a knack for finding spectacular, off-the-beaten-path spots and attractions known only to the locals. Many of her tours focus on some of the best wine regions and vineyards in France, which brings us back to the wine tasting.
Tucked away in one of the suites at the Artmore Hotel in Atlanta, Wendy and Maxine, the newest addition to Bliss Travels, hosted about 15 guests for a lovely evening of wine, cheese and reminiscing.
We sampled fives beautiful wines throughout the evening: two white and three red. At least one of the bottles was from Wendy’s personal collection, which was a special treat.
The white wines were “Brotte Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, 2012″ and “La Nerthe Chateauneuf-de-Pape Blac, 2011.” The reds were a “Louis Latour Gevrey-Chamertin, 2009,” a “Haut-Bailly Grand Cru Pessac-Leognan, 2006″ and a “Smith Haut Lafitte Grand Cru Graves, 2005.” They were pretty fabulous, and I found the whole experience even more enjoyable because Wendy knew a lot about each bottle we tasted.
As we sipped on the wines, Wendy explained where each bottle was from, including personal anecdotes about the vineyards and wine makers. This inevitably led to reminiscing by the folks who had been on tours with Bliss Travels. From the sound of it, everyone who had been on one of the tours had a wonderful time. One gentleman even brought a beautiful book of photographs from his vacation and much time was spent pouring over the pictures and memories.
From everything I heard over the course of the evening, going on on a tour with Bliss Travels is an amazing, one of a kind experience. I hope that one day I am in a position to indulge in vacation like that!
